About

The earliest foundations of the Hare and Hounds date back to 1854, when it was constructed as a farmhouse. Further parts were subsequently added, and others enhanced, in the early 20th century, all of which match the original and traditional style of the farmhouse building.

A section of the hotel exclusive to weddings, known as “Westonbirt”, got its name from the national arboretum, which neighbours the grounds of the hotel. The grand Beaufort Restaurant is the most popular of the licensed ceremony rooms, and takes its name from Beaufort Polo Club, which sits behind the grounds of the hotel.

Today, the hotel is operated by the Cotswold Inns and Hotels group, who purchased the building in 2008. A renovation transformed the interior into the homely, traditional-yet-modern state that it enjoys today.

The Cotswolds Inns and Hotel group own other venues across the Outstanding Area of Natural Beauty, including The Swan Hotel, The Bear of Rodborough, The Manor House Hotel and The Bay Tree Hotel.

Named after the national arboretum that neighbours the hotel, this large and versatile space features an enjoyable level of lighting and a cosy décor. This room is licensed for marriages of up to 120, and can host 30 additional guests to join you in getting the evening party started.

The charming Beaufort Restaurant boasts views of the picturesque gardens through the grand bay windows, which paired with the classic chivari chairs makes a perfect setting for a ceremony of up to 120 guests.

Outdoor Ceremonies

You are welcome to tie the knot in the Hare & Hounds garden, which features its very own timber-framed “Breeze House”, a pagoda-style pavilion. Relish the sun (hopefully) on the lovely lawn and invite up to 120 guests for your ceremony, followed by a drinks reception in the section of the garden exclusive to you, with direct access to the private bar.

Bar Areas

The Jack Hare’s bar is the hotel’s main public bar, featuring an impressive fireplace and cosy areas to dine. This bar makes the perfect entrance alongside the spacious Beaufort Lounge, for your day guests to congregate before the fun begins, as well as a space to host an informal pre-wedding dinner the evening before the wedding.

The Westonbirt bar is the private bar available to weddings, with direct access to the exclusive garden space, Westonbirt Room, and a designated lit-up entrance for your evening guests to arrive in style.

“Hare of the Dog” is an outside bar set amongst the spacious grounds and can be open upon request in the summer months.

Lounge Areas

The Beaufort Lounge, also named after the neighbouring polo club, is exclusive to weddings for the drinks reception and for guests to congregate before the ceremony. The lounge has direct access to the garden, which makes a perfect setting for summer weddings where your guests want the option of inside or outside to enjoy a glass of bubbly.

The Drawing Room is a welcoming, cosy lounge area situated just inside the main entrance. This room is licensed for intimate ceremonies followed by a wedding breakfast, and can be used for your guests to relax and grab a coffee!

Accommodation

42 on-site bedrooms are spread across the grounds to include a wide variety of room types including classic doubles, superior quality doubles, and luxury suites. 12 dog friendly bedrooms are available, some of which sit within the Silkwood Court, an annexe-style building within the hotel grounds.

Gamekeeper's Cottage

Gamekeepers is a luxurious stand-alone cottage that sits adjacent to the main hotel building, with a private garden complete with a hot tub and patio space. It lends itself perfectly to accommodating bridal prep the morning of a wedding, and hosting a romantic retreat for newlyweds the night of!

Catering

The Hare & Hounds wedding packages include a delicious 3 course wedding breakfast tailored to you, and an evening buffet. Upgrades are available if you wish to broaden your horizons, for something like a hog roast or evening BBQ, perfect for the summer months!

The Beaufort Restaurant is the hotels main restaurant for both residents and non-residents. The quality of the cuisine is such that is has been awarded two AA rosettes, so wedding or not, you are guaranteed an exceptional dining experience.

    The Hare and Hounds was the most wonderful venue for our reception, and we couldn't be happier - we had the absolute best day. We booked a late availability winter package with around 5 months between booking and the day. The team at the Hare and Hounds were outstanding - patient and enthusiastic, which are the most important qualities in organising an unique wedding. The setting was gorgeous - christmassy and festive, but classy and opulant. It allowed for stunning photos by the trees, both inside and out. We had an Afternoon Tea when we arrived, with the wedding breakfast later at dinner time. Both meals were incredible, and our guests continue to talk about the beef! As the bride was vegetarian, the Chef was flexible to allow the same meal with a vegetarian alternative (pithvier) to the beef. The team worked with one of our guests who had numerous allergies to create an alternative, and our guest was really happy. The service was so well organised - we had 45 guests, and the team got the meals out almost at exactly the same time, so everyone was eating together. Meals were placed in front of the table at the same time, which was a lovely touch. Service was brilliant on the day. The wedding coordinator, Mia, looked after us for most of the day, and then left us in the hands of the duty manager and a dedicated barman. The team was really flexible with our photoshoots - we had inside and outside photos across the hotel and grounds, and a sparkler shot. The day was above and beyond what we expected, and we are so grateful to the time, dedication and care from the team.

    We are not remotely exaggerating when we say the day was absolutely magical ! You all pre-empted issues and had solutions in place before we could even notice and the difference you and the team made from the room we set up in the evening to the morning/rest of the day was insane! We couldn't believe how well your team could transition the rooms between everything and all our guests said what a lovely, relaxed and amazing day they'd had! This was all down to all of you, so thank you so much!!
    We couldn't have asked for anymore for our special day and will be recommending the venue to all our friends (including the happy couple who got engaged that evening) and will definitely be returning ourselves in the future.

    Now the dust has settled following Rebecca and Jamie's wedding, my wife and I have had time to reflect on the whole occasion. From the day that Rebecca met with you and decided to have her wedding at the Hare and Hounds Hotel, everything has been handled with outstanding professionalism and a complete understanding to what was required.

    The actual wedding day was just about perfect from start to finish. The guy who seemed to be orchestrating everything was superb, his attention to detail was outstanding. But this was not just about one or two people, all of the staff involved at the hotel played a significant part in our enjoyment of this occasion. From reception, to Bar, Waiters, Housekeeping and Chefs/kitchen staff are all a credit to the hotel. Also, the hotel is magnificent, the décor, furnishing, seating, rooms and cottages in the grounds are stunning. So many people came up to me and commented on what a wonderful venue for a wedding.

    So, I would just like to thank you and everyone who was involved in what I can only describe as one of the best run hotels I have stayed in for a long time. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with a smile, wonderful. I would be grateful if you could make sure my comments are passed on to everyone concerned at the hotel.
