The Bay Tree Hotel

Set within the southern gateway to the Cotswolds, Burford, you will discover a wisteria-draped 17th-century hotel which hosts some of the region's most beautiful weddings. The inn is imbued with an idyllic, romantic atmosphere thanks to its gorgeous oak-panelled rooms, hearty fireplaces, delicious gourmet food and warm welcome.

Hidden away in Sheep Street, the award-winning hotel holds four AA stars, and is a recipient of the Visit England Gold Award. Its renowned restaurant also possesses an AA rosette! The hotel is licensed for civil marriage and partnership ceremonies, and can host up to 90 guests, and is capable of hosting receptions for up to 80.

History

The Bay Tree Hotel has undergone many transformations over its hundreds of years of history. Its earlier incarnation was known as Tanfield House, while Sir Lawrence Tanfield, Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer during Elizabeth I's reign, resided there.

The current building was constructed as far back as the 17th century, largely on the footprint of the original, and was known as Burgage House. It contains a number of original features including Tudor-arched fireplaces.

Today the hotel enjoys a Grade II-listing, and is owned and managed by the fantastic local franchise The Cotswolds Inns and Hotels Group, also responsible for several other beautiful hostelries and venues across this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, including The Swan Hotel, The Bear of Rodborough, and The Manor House Hotel

Facilities

The Conservatory

The extremely light and airy Conservatory boasts views over the gardens at the rear of the hotel, and is perfect for wedding ceremonies with up to 60 guests and formal receptions for up to 40. The relaxed and informal atmosphere of the Conservatory is ideal for evening reception parties too.

The Restaurant

Licensed to host civil ceremonies with up to 90 guests, and formal receptions for up to 80, the award-winning Restaurant has a warming and homely atmosphere.

The Hawthorne Room

This intimate space is ideal for hosting low-profile ceremonies with up to 12 people, and is even capable of accommodating up to eight for a formal wedding breakfast.

The Summer House

Prettily located in the gardens, The Summer House is also available and licensed to host alfresco civil marriage and partnership ceremonies.

Exclusive Use

The Bay Tree Hotel is available for exclusive use, whereby you and your guests can have free rein of the whole building, including all 21 bedrooms. This means that you will be able to enjoy all the facilities the hotel has to offer without being disturbed by everyday guests. You will also be able to hire in a live band or other entertainment for your evening reception party in the Conservatory.

Catering

The hotel's in-house kitchen team provide award-winning cuisine all year round, and invariably jump at the chance to impress a larger number of guests. Choose from the selection of suggested wedding menus, or discuss some of your own ideas with the head chef for him to create the reception feast of your dreams.

    Myself & new wife got married at the Bay tree on November 12th & what an amazing venue! The Bay Tree is not your average wedding venue. From the moment we first went to view it we were so impressed with the hotel. We were made to feel at home, welcomed & so special.

    Maureen, Mark & the whole team were outstanding in every department throughout the planning & the big day itself. Nothing was too much trouble and they made our (many) ideas into reality perfectly - they had everything (from the decorations to the day plan and everything else) so under control our wedding was totally stress free and a lot of fun!

    The Bay tree is such a beautiful, unique, traditional Cotswold hotel set in the lovely village of Burford. The decor is stunning. The rooms are luxurious, spacious & clean. The food we had for our wedding breakfast was amazing & the service for over 100 people was perfectly executed.
    All of our guests were blown away by the venue/service/food/drinks… everything!
    We can't recommend the bay tree enough for a wedding!

    My husband and I got married in the Bay Tree Hotel on Saturday 24 September 2016. We cannot recommend the hotel highly enough as a wedding venue - everything was perfect and the day was just so enjoyable and relaxing for both of us as Maureen and her team are incredibly professional and take care of everything as soon as - or often before - you even ask them to.

    The guests had a fantastic time and we received so many compliments about the venue itself, the food (which was top notch) and the rooms. Even though the venue is used for so many weddings, we really were made to feel very special - the staff could not do enough for us and our guests. I really cannot thank Maureen and her team enough for helping us to have such a fantastic day. If you are thinking about this as a wedding venue then DO IT! You will not be disappointed.

    A massive thank you to you both and the whole staff at The Bay Tree for an absolutely amazing day. Maureen, for all your organising and Mark on the day; myself, Stuart, my Dad and other guests commented on your attentiveness and manner. We are very grateful to you for allowing us to be able to personalise our day.

    There was a slight slip-up with no drinks being ready for the arrival of evening guests but Mark I know you responded quickly to get this set up. We left £200 of cash tips with the duty manager on Monday if you can please make sure this is distributed among all staff who were involved in our wedding day.

    We are now in the Maldives, still talking about the day, we will treasure it forever and are happy to recommend you and The Bay Tree as a perfect wedding venue.
