This Georgian Manor House Hotel is perfect for a wide range of events, from large ceremonies and receptions with exclusive use of the hotel to more intimate occasions for 8-25 guests. It is also blessed with one of the country's finest hospitality teams at its disposal, including your own personal wedding coordinator, who ensures your big day is an absolute pleasure from start to finish.

Originally built in 1798 as a dower house by the Earl of Ilchester, the edifice was actually extended by the renowned Victorian-era novelist Thomas Hardy (also an architect) in 1893. Taking a fair number of inspirations for his novels from the village of Evershot (Evershead in 'Tess of the d'Urbervilles'), the stunning Drawing Room, where you can host your ceremony, is also of his design. Having undergone just a modest handful of ownership changes, today the building is privately owned by the Red Carnation Hotel Collection and is currently a member of internationally-renowned Relais and Châteaux, a very prestigious association indeed.

The Drawing Room

Get married in the beautiful Drawing Room, designed originally by the novelist Thomas Hardy for his close friend the 6th Earl of Ilchester. Normally a divine lounging area, this delightful space can be transformed into a bright and airy ceremony room. You'll be in good company; this room was considered to be the perfect location for a number of scenes in successful Hollywood movies including 'Sense And Sensibility' and the Oscar-winning 'Emma'.

Ceremony Capacity - 40 guests

Restaurant And Conservatory

These graceful, large and bright spaces host the majority of the hotel's wedding breakfasts and receptions, looking out across the spendidly manicured lawns from the beautiful conservatory. The Restaurant can seat 56 guests, the Conservatory 20 more, separately. It's easy to combine the two to seat up to 76 guests.

Formal Reception Capacity - 76 guests

Dorchester Suite

This elegant and refined wood-panelled room is eminently suited to smaller, more intimate wedding ceremonies and receptions.

We had our wedding at the Summer Lodge at the end of June, and we couldn’t have been more pleased with our choice, or more impressed with our experience there. The team is truly exceptional, and they made us, and all our guests, feel completely taken care of. The property and grounds are absolutely beautiful – the perfect location for holding a quintessential English wedding. There are countless special touches that distinguish Summer Lodge from other wedding venues, and if you’re looking for an intimate, understated yet luxury wedding venue, this is certainly the place for you.

So many of our guests say it was the best wedding they have ever attended. Much of this is down to meticulous planning and attention to detail and Summer Lodge, particularly the team headed by Laure Pages, was instrumental in ensuring this was true. The weather was perfect, complimented by an artistic menu of seasonal local produce, fine wines and a glorious setting. Accommodation is understatedly luxurious and no stone left unturned. Above all, though, we felt we were at home, and that is probably the finest accolade of all.

We had an absolutely amazing tailor made wedding at Summer Lodge. From the first meeting with the wedding coordinator and chef who took into account all our wants needs and expectations to the end of our wedding day nothing was too much trouble. We and our guests were looked after happily and professionally to make us feel entirely comfortable and pampered throughout. What a wonderful day and a superb wedding dinner. Thank you all at Summer Lodge.
