Sandon Manor

Tucked into the rolling Hertfordshire countryside yet barely an hour from central London, Sandon Manor is one of those rare venues that manages to feel both wildly romantic and effortlessly stylish. The estate centres on a Georgian manor house with ornamental gardens, while its carefully converted historic barns — including a soaring 13th-century Medieval Barn — offer a spectacular canvas for weddings of all shapes and sizes, from sweeping celebrations for 150 to the most intimate of gatherings.

What makes Sandon Manor so special is its sense of completeness. This is a place where the celebration, the feast and the dancing all have their own distinct space — and where your closest people can actually stay. With accommodation for up to 50 guests across the Manor House, the Dovecote honeymoon suite and the Grain Barn, the wedding doesn't end at midnight; it carries on into a relaxed, joyful stay surrounded by 800 acres of rewilded estate. It's the kind of setting that turns a wedding day into a wedding weekend.

About

A Manor House with Roots

Built in 1661, Sandon Manor is a handsome Georgian mansion set within ornamental gardens and surrounded by one of the largest rewilded nature reserves in Hertfordshire. The estate has been thoughtfully restored with sustainability at its heart — the historic barns have been converted into a beautiful, eco-conscious wedding venue that sits just metres from the manor house itself, bringing together centuries of character with genuinely modern sensibility.

The Venue

The wedding venue comprises four converted historic buildings arranged around a central courtyard, each with its own distinct atmosphere yet flowing naturally together. The Medieval Barn is the showstopper — with its soaring 13th-century beams, bespoke lighting rig, cocktail bar and separate club room, it creates a setting for feasting and dancing that guests simply don't forget. The East Wing Ceremony Hall offers a calm, elegant space for the ceremony itself, while the Hay Barn Bar provides a stylish wet-weather option for drinks receptions and the courtyard Summerhouse adds a charming outdoor touch.

Sandon Manor holds a civil ceremony licence and only ever hosts one wedding per weekend, ensuring your day receives undivided attention.

Spaces & Celebrations

The Medieval Barn & Club Room

The heart of the wedding venue, the Medieval Barn has been sensitively restored to reveal its extraordinary 13th-century oak beams while adding every modern comfort a wedding demands. Long dining tables, a bespoke light and sound system, a dedicated dance floor and a fully stocked cocktail bar make this a space that works equally well for a relaxed feast and a full-on party. The adjoining club room — stylish, intimate and with its own sound system — means guests who want to keep dancing and those who want to sit and talk can both have exactly what they need, all under one roof.

Accommodation & Exclusive Use

Sandon Manor offers onsite accommodation for up to 50 guests across three properties. The Manor House sleeps 16 in comfortable, historic surroundings and comes with formal gardens, a croquet lawn and generous social spaces. The Dovecote is the perfect honeymoon retreat — a characterful, cosy suite for two with a mezzanine bedroom, underfloor heating and a wood-burning stove. The Grain Barn offers stylish, contemporary accommodation for up to 30 with views over the nature reserve, and can be booked to bring the total onsite guest count to 50. All three properties can be taken together on an exclusive-use basis for the full wedding-stay experience.

Planning Your Day

The team at Sandon Manor work with three outstanding local caterers, giving couples a genuine choice of style and menu — from relaxed festival feasting to elegant banquets. A dedicated venue manager and event coordinator are included to guide you through every detail in the lead-up and on the day itself. The estate's 800 acres of rewilded nature reserve also provide an extraordinary backdrop for photographs, whatever the season.
