Ockenden Manor was originally used as a private home for John Michel who acquired the manor during the mid-1500s. The property changed hands only twice between the 1500s and the 1760s, being purchased by John Burrell and the fourth Duke of Marlborough. In the early 1900s the building became a Jewish Boys School however, at the beginning of World War Two Ockenden was used to house Canadian troops. After the war, Mr and Mrs Eggars transformed it into a restaurant and guesthouse.
