Lochrian Ensemble

Comprised of four professional musicians, this highly-respected string quartet have been performing together for over 20 years, and the sophisticated sounds of their beautifully-harmonised strings create a magical, romantic atmosphere for wedding ceremonies or receptions.

The ensemble's ever-expanding repertoire ranges from traditional classical pieces to delightful renditions of popular songs from musicals and films, as well as charming arrangements of modern-day hits.

About

The Lochrian Ensemble was founded in 1991 by four exceptionally talented graduates of music college and university. Since forming, the group have spent over 20 years performing all around the UK, and have been coached by celebrated musicians including Andrew Shulman and Bruno Schrecker, who describes the group as 'his favourite quartet in the West'!

This professional group of musicians have performed at over 250 wedding venues around the UK, have a number of highly-acclaimed recordings to their name, and often appear on the BBC's Songs of Praise.

Catherine Black - Co-founder and leader of the group, Catherine regularly leads ensembles including Opera Project and Exultate Singers and has recorded extensively for television and film.

Alison Francis Black - a graduate of St. Catherine's College, Oxford, Alison combines music teaching with performing and recording. She also plays for the Lorien Ensemble and the London Gala Orchestra.

Nerissa Calvert - Co-founder of The Lochrian Ensemble, Nerissa has performed with numerous stage and opera shows, and plays with several larger ensembles, including Brandon Hill Chamber Orchestra and the National Police Orchestra.

Jane Jewel - This fantastic cellist studied at the Royal Academy of Music where she won the Herbert Walen prize and developed a love of chamber music, playing in trios, and quartets and cello ensembles. She has freelanced with several orchestras including the Welsh National Opera and the Endellion Festival Orchestra.

Repertoire

The Lochrian Ensemble's ever-expanding repertoire ranges from iconic pieces by Beethoven, Mozart and Schubert to witty instrumental takes on modern songs.

Regular favourites include the perfect fanfare pieces to accompany your wedding ceremony, for example Mendelssohn's Wedding March, Pachelbel's Canon, and Handel's Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, as well as a vast and growing collection of miscellaneous items to accompany your wedding breakfast or evening reception.

The Ensemble can also take requests, so if you can't find your favourite song on their repertoire list, they will learn it just for you!
