History This Grade I-listed castle dates back to the 9th century when the land was first granted to the Bishop of Worcester. The castle has been a significant power ever since and has been the home of many political and ecclesiastical powers. Hartlebury Castle also boasts the grand Hurd Library. Created in the 1700s this library is a wonderful tribute to the Age of Enlightenment and hosts an incredible range of collections from numerous book collectors.
