About
A Mansion with History
Barnett Hill has a rather special past. The Queen Anne-style mansion was originally built as the private country residence of the Thomas Cook family — yes, that Thomas Cook — and the house retains a warmth and character that speaks to its heritage as a much-loved home. Perched atop a wooded hill near Guildford and revealing itself at the end of a winding, tree-lined drive, it makes for a genuinely memorable arrival.
Today, Barnett Hill is part of the Alexander Hotels collection and operates as a stylish boutique hotel with 56 bedrooms, suites and residences spread across the Mansion House, Courtyard and Gardener's Cottage. The interiors are contemporary and design-led, with chic furnishings that feel fresh and considered without losing any of the building's original charm and elegance.
The Grounds
Set within 26 acres of beautifully kept gardens and grounds within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the setting is as impressive outdoors as it is within. The gardens include a Rose Garden, a Wendy House, a terrace and a Croquet Lawn — all of which can be woven into your wedding day, from pre-ceremony drinks to outdoor photographs.
