About
A Mansion with Centuries of History
Ashton Court has been the site of a manor house since before the 11th century, and for over 400 years it was the ancestral seat of the Smyth family, one of Bristol's most prominent merchant dynasties. The estate has welcomed royal guests including King Charles II and Queen Anne of Denmark, and the mansion's extraordinary interior — with its carved oak panelling, gothic fireplaces and sweeping grand hall — reflects the ambitions of generations of owners who shaped it across the centuries.
The grounds were landscaped in the early 19th century with designs by the celebrated Humphry Repton, and today the estate stretches across 850 acres of woodland and grassland, providing a naturally beautiful canvas for wedding photography and outdoor celebrations alike.
The mansion passed to Bristol City Council in 1959 and is now managed as a unique events venue within one of the UK's most-visited country parks, welcoming couples who want a setting that feels unlike anywhere else in the region.
