About

A Royal Legacy

Ashridge House has one of the most remarkable histories of any wedding venue in the UK. A former royal hunting lodge for King Henry VIII, it later became the childhood home of Princess Elizabeth I and Prince Edward. The estate spans over 700 years of history and sits within 190 acres of beautiful listed gardens in the Chiltern Hills, surrounded by National Trust woodland.

The building itself is a masterpiece of early 19th-century Gothic Revival architecture, designed by James Wyatt and completed by his nephew Jeffry Wyatville. Interiors are rich with original features: fluted marble columns, elaborate gold-leaf ceilings, original Austrian oak panelling, and ornate chandeliers. The interconnecting heritage rooms create a natural, seamless flow from one breathtaking space to the next, meaning your guests will be continually wowed throughout the day.

Today, Ashridge House is an award-winning wedding venue, recognised by Tatler's Address Book and multiple industry accolades, and remains one of the most sought-after settings in the Home Counties.

Ceremony Spaces

The Grand Hall & Staircase

The jewel of Ashridge House, the cantilevered staircase winds majestically through the Grand Hall and is by far the most popular spot for couples exchanging vows. Accommodating up to 180 guests for a ceremony, it makes for an entrance — and an aisle — that most venues can only dream of.

The Chapel

Widely considered one of architect James Wyatt's finest achievements, the Chapel features extraordinary fan vaulting and intricate wood carving reminiscent of England's great cathedrals. It accommodates up to 100 guests for a ceremony, and Anglican blessings with an organist are available to all couples.

South Terrace & The Victorian Fernery

For those dreaming of an outdoor ceremony, the South Terrace — framed by the elegant arches of the house and overlooking the estate gardens — can host up to 180 guests. The Victorian Fernery offers a more intimate alternative for smaller, close-knit celebrations.

Dining & Celebrations

Exceptional In-House Dining

The talented team of chefs at Ashridge House create seasonal, fine dining menus championing British produce, with the flexibility to cater for all dietary requirements. The Lady Marian Alford Room, with its spectacular gold-leaf ceiling and marble fireplaces, is a stunning setting for a wedding breakfast of up to 100 guests, while the magnificent Repton dining room accommodates up to 170. The Wyatt Room, with its original Austrian oak panelling, is a favourite for evening dancing, and benefits from its own bar.
