Nestled within the magical Wakehurst gardens is a gorgeous Elizabethan mansion, full of historic character. The Culpeper's acquired Wakehurst in 1464, and the mansion itself is thought to have been finished in the late 16th century. Throughout the intervening years the building has been significantly modified, but does still contain some Elizabethan woodwork. The wonderful gardens were designed and maintained by Gerald Loder who spent 33 years working on this beautiful space. More recently, the mansion was owned by Sir Henry Price, before being leased by the National Trust to the Royal Botanic Gardens in 1965. The estate now functions as a gorgeous wedding venue.
The historic E-shaped country house offers couples the opportunity to celebrate both within its stunning interior and outside on the dramatic lawn. You can host your evening reception party at the mansion with an exclusive booking.

Highly-detailed decorative wooden panelling and enormous mid-16th-century mullioned windows give this grand chamber an unexpected brightness, generating a warmth and an intimacy that couples regularly fall in love with.
For summer weddings, The Mansion Lawn makes for a perfect spot for truly romantic ceremonies with the entrance porch used for the legal formalities. Guests enjoy the ambience of sitting in the sun on the flawlessly trimmed lawns. The far-reaching linear pathways provide your 'aisle', lending your wedding photographs the most dramatic of looks.

Our whole experience at Wakehurst was exceptional. From first enquiry right up to our most wonderful wedding day, nothing was too much trouble and we felt so reassured knowing that we were in very safe hands on the day.
Nick and Fliss - 04/2016
We couldn't be happier with our choice of Wakehurst Place for our Wedding Reception. Wakehurst looked beautiful and all the staff went above and beyond to make our day run as smoothly as possible. We would like to make a specific mention to the two stewards who were friendly, thoughtful and helpful right to the end of the evening. All our suppliers were brilliant and made our lives incredibly easy throughout the whole process. We would definitely recommend Wakehurst as an excellent Wedding Reception Venue.
