The unique Reid Rooms are situated in Margaret Roding, near Chelmsford on the Essex and Hertfordshire border. The rooms comprise a selection of outbuildings from the Marks Hall estate built nearly 200 years ago which have recently been renovated, and together in context of the charming grounds of the working farm they now present a simply delightful rural wedding venue.

Weddings at The Reid Rooms make full use of interconnecting areas, which brides and grooms can deploy however they wish. The venue is ideal for both summer and winter celebrations - in the summer the gorgeous grounds can be enjoyed, and during the winter months, welcoming log fires are ablaze in the main building - and up to 200 guests can easily be accommodated.

The Reid Rooms were built nearly 200 years ago for Marks Hall Farm. The bar area used to be a chapel, the farmhouse originally formed part of a 15th-century monastery, and the courtyard and ceremony room used to be the stables of the farm. The old buildings have now been converted into lush wedding reception rooms and have been in the Ritchie family for decades. The Reid Rooms opened as a wedding venue in 1996 and have since hosted over 1500 wedding celebrations.

The Ceremony Room

Exposed timber framework gives this room its traditional rustic ambience. However, it has been renovated and converted to a high standard and furnished with antique pine and rural-theme paintings. It can comfortably accommodate up to 100 seated guests, or even more for combinations of seated and standing.

Civil Ceremony Capacity - 100+ Guests

The Meadow Pavilion

A unique ceremony opportunity, this space enables couples to marry al fresco. The pavilion has a timber frame and is roofed with traditional peg tiles. The surrounding permanent benches can accommodate 80 guests, with hay bales moved in if more are invited. As a continuation of the rustic theme, guests will be transported to the pavilion on decorated tractors and trailers.

Civil Ceremony Capacity - 80-150 Guests

The Courtyard

This landscaped area is sheltered on three sides, and affords splendid views across the moat of the 15th-century Marks Hall Farmhouse. Tables, chairs and parasols invite a reception with drinks and canapés to be hosted here during summer months.

The Dining Room

This subtly-lit room, with oak and elm beams and an American pine floor, is perfect for hosting a charming wedding breakfast.

Formal Reception Capacity - 120-150 Guests

The Lounge And Conservatory

Ideal for a post-dinner retreat, for more drinks or for coffee, the Lounge and Conservatory naturally exudes a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Evening buffets are generally laid out in this room, thus keeping the food presentation and dancing area separate.

The Bar And Reception Room

Perfect for reception drinks when the weather is not so good, it can also be used as a dance space for evening entertainment.

The dining room, lounge, conservatory, bar and reception room are all conveniently interconnected. For a typical evening party or a buffet reception, they are combined and used as one area.

Evening Reception Capacity - 200 Guests

If you need assistance in planning and organising your big day, The Reid Rooms offers an overall wedding package. Prices are tailored to guest numbers, menus and individual requirements. There is no corkage fee for wedding breakfasts and receptions.

The venue is wonderfully adaptable, and offers its couples the option to have a bouncy castle in the grounds, garden games, ice-cream vans or fish'n'chip trucks or anything else that takes their fancy! The friendly wedding team will discuss your wishes with you and can often recommend suppliers where applicable.

Catering And Accommodation

Catering is imported, but The Reid Rooms suggest you choose one of their tried-and-trusted recommended suppliers. These include Feasts And Flowers, who specialise in outdoor catering and thus can present a delectable summery menu, The Aussie BBQ Company, who serve up an authentic Australian barbecue feast, together with a dash of cheery 'OZ'pitality, and the more traditional Oliver Catering, serving delicious wedding breakfast cuisine. The wedding team at The Reid Rooms will usually be able to recommend which of these most perfectly suit your day.

The privately-owned, Grade II-listed Marks Hall, a 15th-century moated farmhouse, is located just yards from The Reid Rooms in a tranquil countryside setting. The luxury bed and breakfast accommodation includes a beautiful bridal suite and can sleep up to 20 guests, with full English breakfast served the next day.
