The in-house wedding planner can develop individually-designed packages, allowing bespoke quotes to match the unique requirements of each new couple.

History

The Grade II-listed and beautifully restored country hostelry was originally constructed in 1838 to be a communal social facility for resident workers at the nearby Tyntesfield Estate. Now nearly two centuries later, the kindly country inn still passes muster as a welcome retreat and vital social hub for locals and visitors alike.

Very much the local landmark, the prominent peaked triangular architecture is fairly typical of the mid-to-late 19th century, with intricate woodwork and imposing roofs extending to the interior. It is thanks to the grand scale of the building that The Battleaxes boasts such a large capacity and versatility for wedding parties.

Facilities

For civil ceremonies, the wood-panelled Clubroom is both idyllic and sublime. With its large open bay windows flooding light into the chamber from the polished wooden floors to the high-vaulted ceilings, it is an impressive backdrop for every couple's special moment. The Clubroom also serves well for wedding breakfasts.

Meanwhile the Lounge Bar/Restaurant area can be utilised for a canapés and drinks reception following your ceremony, with its commanding views across the gorgeous Somerset countryside. Additionally, the space can be cleared for a disco and dancefloor area for the evening festivities. On the other hand, the cosier bar downstairs known as The Shindig caters effectively for a smaller, more intimate party, and can be used for an after-hours disco.

Clubroom (Ceremony, Formal Reception) - 50-90 Guests

Lounge Bar (Informal Reception Party) - up to 250 Guests
