Penshurst Place has been owned by the Sidney family since 1552, having previously passed through two of Henry IV's sons. The historical residence would go on to be used as a hunting lodge by Henry VIII, before it was passed to his ex-wife Anne of Cleves in their divorce settlement.

Several other members of high-society would take it in turns to mind the estate, until it eventually landed in the safe hands of Sir William Sidney.

Buttery & Inner Courtyard

Formerly a medieval bottle store, it has 17th century tapestries hanging from the walls. Alongside this you will also find a private courtyard. Choose to say you ‘I dos’ outdoors; or serve champagne and canapés here before your reception.

Due to the age of the house, the Baron’s Hall not suitable for hosting a wedding breakfast or evening reception, from mid-October through to mid-May. Alternatively, couples may choose to marry in one of the medieval rooms, before hosting their reception in a beautiful marquee, draped above the Inner Courtyard.

One of the most beautiful houses I think I have EVER visited! The staff were wonderfully friendly and informative and the gardens were simply breathtaking! Can't wait to go back!

I was a bridesmaid for my friends wedding here. Lovely venue and grounds, was well organised. The main staff in charge were very officiant and if you needed something they were at hand to get it. The waiters were great at placing plates on table at the same time and topping up glasses.Even though we were running so late the food was great. was an amazing day with a great atmosphere. Me and the husband said we must come back with the kids and visit to see all of the grounds properly, cant wait.

We were blown away by the beauty and the peace of the place! I had no idea of the links to " Wolf Hall " and I was fascinated as we live very near Hampton Court in Surrey! A very memorable day and would recommend a visit if you are nearby!

We had the best wedding on Saturday. We can't thank the staff enough for all their hard work. All our guests complemented how amazing the venue was. A truly beautiful venue that myself and my husband will always treasure as a special place to us. X
