History
Converted from an historic Georgian oasthouse, this building certainly has a great deal of history. Oasthouses were used to dry hops before they were added to the beer brewing process, for which purpose indeed this one would have been used too!
Kent is well known for its proliferation of oasthouses, thanks to its ideal soil for cultivating the hops combined with easy access to ample supplies of suitable wood; in fact, the oldest surviving UK example is just down the road from the hotel in Cranbrook.
