About

The name 'Makatipi' was derived from the Native Amerindian word 'Maka'. In the Sioux language, this means 'Earth'. Tipis are considered rustic and natural in many cultures, globally.

Makatipi was created to counter the 'one size fits all' approach to events marquees. The staff believe that brides and grooms should be able to create the wedding of their dreams in every aspect of their big day, and tipis, tents and marquees should preferably not look as if they've just been bought off the shelf.

An eco-friendly company, Makatipi recycle and repurpose their material when possible. They are shortly about to embark on a carbon-offsetting programme, whereby they will plant trees for each and every event where their tents or tipis are in operation.

The Tents

Kata And Kung Tipis

Makatipi specialise in Giant Kata Tipis and smaller Kung Tipis. These originate from Nordic countries, and are well-equipped for the British outdoors. The company will be deploying some of the few White Giant Hat Tipis currently in the UK from 2016. These beautiful structures are fantastic for wedding festivities.

Bedouin Stretch Tents

Makatipi also offer Bedouin stretch tents. These are extremely versatile modular examples that can be constructed in various different ways, even around buildings! The experienced staff at Makatipi invite you to imagine the type of tent that will perfectly harmonise with your special day, and will then work to create it.

Service

Makatipi provide and erect tipis, decorations and transportation of their products. Every request that they receive is considered individually depending on bespoke requirements. They happily work with brides and grooms to discuss the particular services they would like, or can source venues and suppliers if needed. A unique Makatipi service is the creation of a personal wedding website, which provides information to guests about the event.

Just sending a quick email to say thank you so much for providing our wonderful tipis for our wedding three weeks ago. They provided such a lovely venue for our rustic farm wedding and kept us dry and warm despite the persistent rain! We had so many compliments on the tipi and what a unique setting it was. Having both the chill out zone and the dance floor area provided very welcome and contrasting areas in the evening too. Thanks so much for all your hard work during set up and set down. Thank you also for sorting our issues with power, apologies for the inconvenience that caused! We will definitely be recommending Makatipi to our friends and family in the future.

We wish to compliment the whole team for their efficiency, professionalism and attention to detail. Above all, they were a very nice bunch of chaps to work with. It really goes without saying that we would unquestionably recommend tipis, and particularly MakaTipi, to the aspiring organisers of any such event.

We just wanted to thank all at MakaTipi for their hard work and excellent setup for our youngest daughter’s recent wedding. The Tipi was magnificent, and was complimented by everyone, often very enthusiastically. One person, clearly affected by the romance of the occasion, described it as a ‘cathedral in canvas’! There is no doubt that it is much more spacious and less complicated than other tipis I have been in, and there was ample room for 115 guests to eat, a large sitting out area - well decorated - and a dance floor with a 7 piece band.
