Meaning we can legally marry any day, any time, including getting married at night. Although it wasn\u2019t always this way. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n\n\n<p>Up until 1 October 2012 wedding ceremonies, \u2018may be solemnized at any time between the hours of eight in the forenoon and six in the afternoon.\u2019 AKA, you could only <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"legally marry between 8am and 6pm (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/sweeping-reforms-to-restore-british-liberties \" target=\"_blank\">legally marry between 8am and 6pm<\/a>. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/images.theweddingsecret.co.uk\/magazine\/planning\/Get-married-at-night\/get-married-at-night-image-1.jpg\" alt=\"get married at night\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, although this didn\u2019t drastically restrict you \u2013 as the average time to hold a wedding ceremony is midday \u2013 it did cut down on your liberties. It meant a late evening or night time ceremony was out of the question. <strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately the new law passed in 2012 and the archaic restrictions were thrown out. As a result, we now have the freedom to host a beach ceremony at sunrise or an atmospheric night time celebration. <strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Why were there laws in the first place? &nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Many ministers and the old law-writers of 1836 believed that allowing people to marry at any time of day or in any place meant that couples might get married for the wrong reasons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They believed that the wedding may become more about the event than the affirmation and consolidation of a lasting monogamous relationship. As a result, getting married at night was not an option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/images.theweddingsecret.co.uk\/magazine\/planning\/Get-married-at-night\/get-married-at-night-image-2.jpg\" alt=\"get married at night\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There were other, more practical reasons for this law being introduced way back in the 19th century. Thick wedding veils and lighting issues were a genuine problem, so the law was also introduced to help the brides of the day.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The issue was raised in <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Parliament\u2019s Protection of Freedoms Bill of 2010-11 (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/new-measures-allow-couples-to-tie-the-knot-at-any-time\" target=\"_blank\">Parliament\u2019s Protection of Freedoms Bill of 2010-11<\/a>, thanks to pressure from the wedding industry and an increasing awareness that these rules are no longer observed in most other parts of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>How does this influence me?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The number one benefit from\nbeing able to get married at my time is freedom. This is ultimately a\nsignificant step towards being able to arrange a totally bespoke wedding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/images.theweddingsecret.co.uk\/magazine\/planning\/Get-married-at-night\/get-married-at-night-image-3.jpg\" alt=\"get married at night\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>No longer will couples have to rush to have their wedding ceremony completed before 6pm. Alternatively, those who don\u2019t like the idea of having a marriage celebration that lasts&nbsp;all day&nbsp;\u2013 as most currently do \u2013 can now concentrate their celebrations and incorporate the ceremony itself into an evening party. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Planning a night time ceremony<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>So,\nthankfully you\u2019re now able to host your dream wedding in the early hours if you\nplease. Whether you\u2019ve always dreamt of a romantic candlelit celebration or if\nnight time nuptials are simply more practical, you have the freedom to host\nyour perfect wedding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\nare a number of factors to consider. The main factor being the kind of\ncelebration would you like. Whether you\u2019re planning a manor house wedding or\nalfresco celebration, you\u2019ll need to check with the venues you\u2019re searching to\nensure they are happy to host a night time wedding. Remember, they\u2019ll have to\norganise the staffing to ensure your special day runs without a glitch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/images.theweddingsecret.co.uk\/magazine\/planning\/Get-married-at-night\/get-married-at-night-image-9.jpg\" alt=\"get married at night\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending\non the type of marriage you\u2019re planning on having, you\u2019ll have to find a\nregistrar who\u2019s happy to perform your ceremony. Okay, it\u2019s not technically\nnight time but this would definitely count as an out of hour\u2019s service. You and\nyour guests can enjoy an actual wedding breakfast before having an entire day\nof celebrations. Not only would you be able to enjoy spectacular views but it\nwould also be unique. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/images.theweddingsecret.co.uk\/magazine\/planning\/Get-married-at-night\/get-married-at-night-image-5.jpg\" alt=\"get married at night\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3>The Essentials<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lights,\nlights, lights! If you\u2019re planning a night time wedding, a d\u00e9cor item that is\nreally going to elevate your celebration is fabulous lighting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether that\u2019s lanterns strung from the ceiling, fairy lights wrapped around banisters and beautiful bulbs as centrepieces, warm tone lighting is going to give a cosy and romantic atmosphere.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ensure you put sufficient lighting near any steps or slopes. You don\u2019t want any accidents on your wedding day! If you\u2019re planning an outdoor celebration you could wrap fairy lights around tree trunks or string them between branches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/images.theweddingsecret.co.uk\/magazine\/planning\/Get-married-at-night\/get-married-at-night-image-6.jpg\" alt=\"get married at night\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Candles are also an absolute must \u2013 if your venue permits it! Not only are they effortlessly romantic, candles will also provide a certain amount of light and a warm orange hue to the space. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You could line your aisle with tea lights \u2013 which are also cost effective. Also, giving your guests sparklers is a fun and inventive\nway to add some brightness!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Disadvantages<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although\nit may become legal to be married at any time of day, it may be difficult to\nfind a registrar or clergyman that will perform marriages at anti-social hours.\nEven if you do, they may and probably will charge more than the average daytime\nequivalent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll also need to think about the wedding photographs. Having spent all that time getting ready and decking out the space, it would be a shame not to capture it on camera. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this in mind, be sure to make some time to take some wedding photos whilst you have some daylight. Some wedding venues, particularly manor houses or venues in residential areas will have limitations. Meaning they may only be allowed to play music or serve alcohol until 11pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, you\u2019ll be restricted to venues that have late licences. After all, you don\u2019t want to plan a night time wedding to only find out that it will have to be a ridiculously short celebration!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Getting\nmarried at night is a fantastic way to host a unique wedding. Now that there\nare no restrictions from archaic laws, brides and grooms are able to take\nadvantage and host a romantic nigh time wedding from dawn till dusk.
