So, ensure you include these on your wedding playlist!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>What is\nRock n Roll?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Disclaimer: when starting this article, we were desperately trying to find songs labelled solely as rock n roll. The genre started so many subgenres that pretty much anything <em>could<\/em> be classed as rock n roll. However, we then discovered an amazing speech from Ice Cube:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"What Is Rock &amp; Roll: Ice Cube of N.W.A.\" width=\"770\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/o9raruxjVhg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption><br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Well\nsaid, O\u2019Shea. Well said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>You Really Got Me \u2013 The Kinks\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kinks didn\u2019t receive much commercial success when they first formed in 1964, until later on that year when they released \u201cYou Really Got Me\u201d. In fact, they actually recorded two different versions of the song, the second being the version we know today. The first was in a blues style inspired by Lead Belly and Big Bill Broonzy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"The Kinks - You Really Got Me (from One For The Road)\" width=\"770\" height=\"578\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qqJnhYabfsY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The power chords became a staple of many later songs and were popular in the hard rock movement. The lyrics, according to guitarist Dave Davies, are \u201ca love song for street kids\u201d. But while it may be lust-fuelled, it\u2019s still a song about passion and should have a space on your playlist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Wild Horses \u2013 The Rolling\nStones <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWild Horses\u201d is attributed to the Jagger\/Richards songwriting partnership. The Rolling Stones, a massively popular group, recorded this country rock song in 1969. However, it took two years before it was released. Meanwhile, Keith Richards gave a demo to the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Flying Burrito Brothers\u2019 (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/facts\/the-flying-burrito-brothers\/wild-horses\" target=\"_blank\">Flying Burrito Brothers\u2019<\/a> Gram Parsons. As a result, this version came out a year before the original!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"The Rolling Stones - Wild Horses (Live)\" width=\"770\" height=\"578\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Xb3fZmkzy84?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it was worth the wait as it is a great, slower rock song. In fact, it is Jerry Hall\u2019s favourite of her ex-husband\u2019s tracks. We&nbsp;think this song has a romantic message, although looking at the lyrics it\u2019s hard to be sure\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Good Vibrations \u2013 Beach Boys <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The making of \u201cGood Vibrations\u201d was a lot more complicated than immediately meets the eye and reportedly cost tens of thousands of dollars. The so-called psychedelic rock song was built from 90 hours of short musical fragments, which was later pieced together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations (Official Video)\" width=\"770\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/apBWI6xrbLY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The band\u2019s Brian Wilson said that he was acutely aware of \u201cvibrations\u201d or the connections between things. The term \u201cgood vibes\u201d was also gaining popularity at the time. He wanted to use an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/allsongs\/2013\/02\/07\/171385175\/no-it-wasn-t-a-theremin-on-good-vibrations-remembering-paul-tanner?t=1561980269398\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Electro-Theremin (opens in a new tab)\">Electro-Theremin<\/a>, a relatively new technology, in the production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surely the idea of spread good vibes (and excitations) is something you may be looking for at your wedding. Although, you might want to reserve it for the dancefloor (and possibly the bedroom).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Wonderful Tonight \u2013 Eric\nClapton <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This soft rock ballad would make a great choice for your first dance. After all, what could be more appropriate to play for a bride on her wedding day?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clapton wrote the song about <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Pattie Boyd (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pattieboyd.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pattie Boyd<\/a>, who was, at the time, married to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theweddingsecret.co.uk\/magazine\/iconic-wedding-dresses-yoko-ono\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"The Beatles (opens in a new tab)\">The Beatles<\/a>\u2019 George Harrison. The three were good friends but eventually Harrison and Boyd\u2019s relationship collapsed. She was also the basis for Clapton\u2019s \u201cLayla\u201d and \u201cBell Bottom Blues\u201d and The Beatles\u2019 \u201cI Need You\u201d, \u201cLove You To\u201d and \u201cSo Sad\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>She Loves You \u2013 The Beatles <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The world\u2019s biggest band released hundreds of hits. \u201cShe Loves You\u201d sat in the UK chart\u2019s pole position for six weeks and in the charts for 33. In fact, it was one of the five songs that held the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"top five Billboard posts (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/6039421\/50-years-ago-today-the-beatles-boast-nos-1-5-on-billboard-hot\" target=\"_blank\">top five Billboard posts<\/a> on 4<sup>th<\/sup> April 1964. Furthermore, according to BBC Radio 2, it was their best-selling single of all time. It was, like many others, attributed to the Lennon-McCartney songwriting partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-embed-aspect-4-3\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"She Loves You (Remastered 2009)\" width=\"770\" height=\"578\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nGbWU8S3vzs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With an appropriate title and even more appropriate lyrics, this song will get gets feeling the love everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>When A Man Loves A Woman \u2013\nPercy Sledge <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the lyrics could describe an uneven relationship, the emotion behind the song is clear: a man loves a woman. A lovely soulful backing makes this song perfect for a slow dance, whether that\u2019s the bride and groom or any other couples present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Percy Sledge - When A Man Loves A Woman (Live)\" width=\"770\" height=\"578\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EYb84BDMbi0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After its initial release in 1966, the song did well commercially. However, it did even better in the UK after it was featured on an advert for <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Levi\u2019s in 1987 (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2015\/apr\/16\/how-levis-and-vintage-soul-scored-a-commercial-leg-up\" target=\"_blank\">Levi\u2019s in 1987<\/a>. It also featured heavily in advertising for the film <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Platoon (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0091763\/soundtrack\" target=\"_blank\">Platoon<\/a><\/em> the same year. Later, a cover by Michael Bolton even won the artist a Grammy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>&#8220;Heroes&#8221; \u2013 David Bowie <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Bowie wrote \u201c\u2018Heroes\u2019\u201d with Brian Eno after witnessing his producer, Tony Visconti, kissing his lover at the Berlin Wall. The lyrics are from Tony\u2019s point of view. Moreover, the song\u2019s title, styled with quotation marks, shows some irony of the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"David Bowie - Heroes (Official Video)\" width=\"770\" height=\"578\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lXgkuM2NhYI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Bowie wrote, recorded and performed this song in Berlin. He played it at the Reichstag in 1987, ten years after its release, in West Germany but within earshot of East Germany. Bowie remembers the audience applauding on both sides of the wall. In fact, this song had such a big impact that many &#8211; including the German government and foreign ministry &#8211; attribute the fall of the Berlin wall to his performance; they tweeted as much after the singer\u2019s death in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/images.theweddingsecret.co.uk\/magazine\/entertainment\/rock-n-roll\/berlin-wall-kiss.jpg\" alt=\"rock n roll music\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But, funnily enough, the song was not popular at release; one reviewer wrote that it \u201csounds weary\u201d. However, it is now considered one of Bowie\u2019s most popular tracks, helped by the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"multi-latch gating (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.futureproducers.com\/forums\/production-techniques\/recording-mixing-and-mastering\/multi-latch-gating-how-fall-love-noise-gates-411183\/\ufeff\" target=\"_blank\">multi-latch gating<\/a> of the microphones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Livin\u2019 On A Prayer \u2013 Bon Jovi\n<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Is there anything more romantic than the idea of love and ambition getting you through the hard times? This is what songwriter Jon Bon Jovi said of the song, as well as shining a light on the fact that it is about a working class couple during the Reagan era. Consequently, it is a fantastic sentiment to bring to your wedding day and with an uplifting tune to boot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-embed-aspect-16-9\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Bon Jovi - Livin&#039; On A Prayer (Official Music Video)\" width=\"770\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lDK9QqIzhwk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The song has many different endings, from a fade out to a talk box solo. In addition, the song was first released as a hidden track on <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allmusic.com\/album\/100000000-bon-jovi-fans-cant-be-wrong-mw0000139406\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can\u2019t Be Wrong (opens in a new tab)\">100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can\u2019t Be Wrong<\/a><\/em>. Although Jon did not like the original version, it\u2019s a good job his bandmates turned him around. This is now the group\u2019s signature song and has topped many \u201cgreatest songs of all time\u201d lists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Stand By Me \u2013 Ben E. King <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For a song so timeless and entwined with Ben E King\u2019s name, it is hard to believe that he never intended to release it himself! He wrote it for the Drifters who decided not to record it. As a result, King decided to give it a go when he had some spare studio time at the end of a session. His producers liked it and the song became synonymous with King.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-embed-aspect-4-3\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Stand By Me\" width=\"770\" height=\"578\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/L1hDFTORV4I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>However, that is not to say that his was the only version; the song has been covered over 400 times! Notably, the Drifters performed the song in 2015 just after the singer\u2019s death. Weeks earlier, the song was inducted to the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Library of Congress (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/static\/programs\/national-recording-preservation-board\/documents\/StandByMe.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Library of Congress<\/a> as \u201cculturally, historically, or aesthetically significant\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lyrics follow a pattern similar to traditional religious music, from which the tune originates. Therefore, your wedding guests can certainly sing and dance along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Bohemian Rhapsody \u2013 Queen <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, not every song on your playlist has to relate to weddings, love, or relationships. We\u2019re ending this list with the Queen classic \u201cBohemian Rhapsody\u201d. Producer Roy Thomas Baker described the song as \u201ctotally insane\u201d in how they just had fun with playing music. Hard rock and progressive rock were seen as more serious music genres, and this turned the style on its head. The track may have taken three weeks to record, but they created a piece of musical history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-embed-aspect-16-9\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Queen \u2013 Bohemian Rhapsody (Official Video Remastered)\" width=\"770\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fJ9rUzIMcZQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBohemian Rhapsody\u201d became an immediate commercial success, perhaps because listeners had never heard anything quite like it. It topped the UK singles chart for nine weeks and is the UK\u2019s third-best-selling single of all time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The song breaks every traditional songwriting rule, but even so many of your guests will be sure to know the tune, lyrics and changes. There is no chorus, but instead ballad, operatic and rock sections. When the band\u2019s guitarist, Brian May, first heard what Freddie Mercury was working on, however, he knew it would be a hit.
