Here’s a post for the beach lovers (and beautifully styled wedding lovers too). We’re showcasing the wedding of the lovely Lucy and Sam, who were married at the luxurious Bedruthan Steps Hotel, a beautiful Cornwall venue<\/a> on the north coast.<\/p>\n\n\n

A popular destination for summer weddings, Cornwall has beautiful coastlines, gorgeous beaches and absolutely stunning countryside at its disposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucy and Sam tied the knot in September just after the summer season and had a relaxed, beach themed wedding with a barbecue meal. So, Cornwall was the perfect location for them to tie the knot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a misty late summer\u2019s day, and the truly stunning surroundings were matched only by the bride and grooms quirky style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Venue <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

They chose Bedruthan Steps Hotel as they love the venue for its green ethics and great food. As Lucy and Sam are both keen surfers, they decided to have a relaxed seaside themed wedding overlooking their favourite beach Mawgan Porth<\/a> in Cornwall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucy tells us, \u2018we wanted to get married at one of the beaches we spend a lot of time on. We wanted it to be quite relaxed, and found the staff at the hotel so accommodating to any of our requests, they gave us a choice of three ways of decorating, or we could choose our own, so we chose our own!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also know the food is good there, so were sure we would be fed well! It was also great as a lot of our guests were travelling to our wedding, so it is a lovely hotel to stay in, and nobody needed to organise taxis at the end of the night. The day was all in one place, just how we wanted it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also loved the green ethics of the hotel, and that they use all local\u00a0suppliers.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

D\u00e9cor <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The interior d\u00e9cor of the hotel is a mix of contemporary and retro, which suited their wedding\u2019s colour scheme and overall style. The colour scheme was turquoise, hot pink and lime green with some beachy elements incorporated in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Sam\u2019s mum, Christine, made miles and miles of bunting, which looked amazing and really tied the theme together. She used brightly coloured materials in blue, yellow and pink and used some floral fabrics as well. These were hung across the ceremony room in rows, brightening up the space<\/g>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucy made the table decorations, and she had friends and family collecting jars of various sizes. She then filled them with sand, shells and made a handle from hessian<\/g> rope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This incorporated the beach theme into the d\u00e9cor really nicely and was a cheap and cheerful way of getting stuck in with DIY d\u00e9cor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The jars also doubled as favours and people were more than happy to take them home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Food was one of the important things to Lucy and Sam and they chose to have a barbecue. It\u2019s the way they cook regularly, so it seemed fitting to have one for their wedding day! The hotel\u2019s Lanai area was perfect, and had a huge BBQ station too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucy says, \u2018We found the chef fantastic and enthusiastic when planning our menu, he took inspiration from Ottlenghi, whose food we love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They opted for pasties in the evening, traditionally Cornish and filling enough to soak up the copious amounts of alcohol consumed!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucy and Sam kept all their suppliers either local, or involved family and friends. As they were on a tight budget, all help was welcome!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flowers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lucy and Sam used Ginny\u2019s Flowers<\/a> to design and create the bouquets and buttonholes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bouquet arrangements were bright and colourful. The florist used bright pink, green and orange daisies with thistles incorporated in. This resulted in beautiful, eye catching<\/g> bouquets that tied the theme together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The cake was decorated with bright daisies too, which looked lovely!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cake (s)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lucy\u2019s sister made the most amazing cake with a replica of their surfboards as a topper. The cake was a three flavoured Madeira cake with chocolate icing. Each tier was decorated with small chocolate swirls around the outside of it. It looked truly scrumptious!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Lucy\u2019s mum made an extra fruit cake, for those who weren\u2019t keen on the three-flavoured Madeira cake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

To save money on their budget, the cake doubled as a dessert so not one bit of it was wasted. As it was so big, this lasted into the evening as well! Bonus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018I always feel blessed to shoot weddings in Devon and Cornwall due to the myriad of exceptional venues and beautiful scenery like Bedruthan Steps overlooking Mawganporth<\/g> beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On my drive to the venue, the weather was quite poor with heavy skies and dampening drizzle. But once I arrived at this exciting location, the rain settled a bit and left the coast covered in a thick layer of mist, making the coastal scenery somehow more dramatic. I knew this was going to be a special day for photographing\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026I met the bride to be and her bridesmaid\/sister in the bridal suite for preparation photos. It\u2019s always fun to shoot the preparation as there are so many unexpected moments and beautiful details to shoot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The whole day went perfectly and was a delight to shoot even though the misty light was sometimes quite challenging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The celebrations went on with drinking and dancing into the late night. When the couple and their guests are this relaxed, it gives a great opportunity for lots of unplanned documentary-style shots. They tell a great story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the kind of a wedding<\/g> photography I specialise in and I love to shoot weddings when I am able to blend in to capture the special moments that happen when you least expect it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0From the photos you can see that colourful Vans were the footwear of choice for the men. Incorporating that bright theme, just a bit more.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n
