Host Event Management and Cogges Manor Farm Styled Shoot – 20th May 2013

Today we’re taking a look at what a member of The Wedding Secret’s community is getting up to. Olivia Mills runs Host Event Management, a rather influential wedding planning company based in the Bristol and Cotswolds areas, and has decided to share a recent and exciting project of hers with us!

Olivia and a number of other specialists have been working hard on bringing an inspirational barn wedding ‘styled shoot’ to your screens- a process which culminated recently on the 20th of May, 2013.

Providing Inspiration

The shoot was arranged simply to inspire and demonstrate various ideas and trends that are hitting wedding venues across the country at this present time, along with the chance to showcase a number of Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire’s most interesting wedding suppliers.
The shoot took place at Cogges Manor Farm, near Witney, just west of Oxford, within the venue’s Wheat Barn.

A Word From Olivia

Olivia stated that: “I remember the first time I walked in here to look at the venue. I knew I wanted to shoot here because it is so visually stunning. As a blank canvas, it’s got everything- all the tools you need to create a stunning environment for weddings or events…the Cotswold stone walls, the canopy of exposed beams coupled with a warm and inviting atmosphere got my creative head spinning! I contacted a team of wedding professionals who are based in the area and they gladly accepted to work on this project.”

The Décor

Olivia and her chosen suppliers got to work on the traditional and rustic barn, and decided to focus on ‘muted’ tones and colours with the intention not to overwhelm the natural ambience.
In terms of seating, the team used ‘long tables’, to make the room feel more informal. These were adorned with white table linen, featured classic-style tableware from caterer, Elegant Cuisine, along with hessian lace-edged table runners, rustic stationary from Little Bird Weddings, and potted plants. Seating was provided by local firm BHK Rentals , in the form of wooden fold up chairs, and floral seat cushions.

On Table Decorations

Long tables naturally lead to using lots of small arrangements (thanks to lack of space in comparison to round tables), so the team used space-busting on-table decorations such as lace, twine and hessian-decorated jam jars, along with old fashioned milk bottles and wrapped plants.

Table Numbers

In keeping with the nature of the barn, Olivia decided to use bundles of wheat upon rustic wooden tree cross-sections as a stand for hessian table numbers – all finished with tealights.

Other Decorations

Moving away from the tables now, and pink and blue bunting was draped perfectly across the barn from one beam to another (supplied by the Oxford Bunting Co), add to this a scattering of fairy lights and you have the perfect country-side dream!

Flowers

Flowers were provided by Tracey from Distinctive Petals, and were in-keeping with the country style.

A bridal bouquet was created and modelled by the wonderful Katy- Lula. The subtle and soft texture of peonies against harsh wheat offered a fantastic contrast. Add some forget-me-nots and Lilac picked from florist Tracey’s garden for a fantastic range of colour! The ‘posy’ (bouquet) was finished off with a hessian-style ribbon and pearl pins to compliment the rest of the designs in the barn and the model bride’s pearl jewellery.

The Cake

Samantha from the The Pretty Cake Company created a modest three tier ivory cake trimmed with pale champagne satin ribbon with an ivory lace overlay. It was decorated with sugar ivory blush roses, white stocks and wheat, with a small lace bow on the bottom tier. The cake was displayed on a vintage glass pedestal cake stand and housed in an ornate cast iron display stand.

Make-up

Local model Katy Lula attended the shoot and modelled a boho-inspired look with hair and very natural makeup from Jessica Mills. Pearl jewellery from Forever Nina was added to give a classic wedding look.

The Courtyard

The courtyard area just outside the barn was a perfect addition, and was just dying to be utilised in some way. Olivia and the team decided to dressed it as a relaxed lounge/chill out area with hay-bales for seats, floral fabrics, bay trees, flowers, the table plan and even more bunting. This area is perfect for a BBQ or a hog roast!

Photography and Filmmaking

Neil Hanson Photography captured the event on a stills camera, and Alison and Justin from Vogue Wedding Films created the behind the scenes video you see above.

It sounds like the shoot was a huge success, and we, along with Olivia and the shoot’s team, hope that a great deal of brides and grooms marrying in the Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire areas (and beyond) will take inspiration from this amazing DIY venue setup!
