Launcells Barton

Your fairytale day of celebration can be a reality at Launcells Barton, a stunning Cornwall wedding venue. Situated in the tranquil parish of Launcells near Bude, the Grade II*-listed manor house boasts an unmatchable historic charm and offers exclusive use to every wedding couple using the venue, with a luxurious bridal suite and four double bedrooms, plus lots of space for camping.

There are several areas licensed to host civil ceremonies, and you can choose between having the reception in the purpose-built events barn or in a marquee in the grounds. You are welcome to decorate the venue imaginatively, and can use external catering companies recommended by the Launcells Barton team, meaning that your entire wedding can be organised on your own terms.

History

Although Launcells Manor is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, the older part of the surviving building is believed to date back to the 14th century, and originally housed a cell of Augustine monks connected to Hartland Abbey. The bridal suite features a gorgeous barrel-vault ceiling and a rustic church door, with a concealed priest-hole dating from the period immediately following the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The newer part of the building is mid-Georgian, boasting regal exteriors and large light rooms.

The property is currently owned by Matthew and Lara. Matthew grew up at Launcells Barton; it has been in his family since 1949. When he took Lara there, she immediately fell in love with the place - despite its lack of central heating! The majestic exterior and historic interior amazed her, and once she experienced the incredible views of the sun setting over the Cornish sea she just knew that she had to live here. Since then, Matthew and Lara have worked tirelessly to make the events space the fantastic venue that it is today. They are lovingly restoring their property, to ensure that it can be enjoyed by wedding parties for many years to come.

Facilities

The House

The house itself boasts an unmistakably historic charm with its interesting mixture of architecture from widely different periods. It is used mainly for wedding-night accommodation, although your ceremony can take place in the Entrance or in the Sitting Room.

Events Barn

The brand-new, purpose-built Events Barn harmonises with the house and countryside yet is a marvellous state-of-the-art space.

The light and airy seating area can accommodate up to 200 guests for receptions, and the fitted kitchen can be partitioned off for smaller gatherings. There is lots of outdoor seating and a large lawn for guests, where garden games or croquet can be played.

Mill Barn

Stone-built with exposed oak beams and large French doors, the 19th-century Mill Barn is perfect for revelling in the views of the countryside. Licensed to host civil ceremonies, it presents a blank canvas ideal for decoration to any number of wedding themes.

The Grounds

The large walled garden is an attraction in itself, ideal for a drinks and canapés reception, and the custom-built arbour is perfect for an outdoor wedding ceremony. You can exchange vows and rings beneath the original archway, in front of up to 150 guests.

The Church

Nearby is the parish church of St Swithin, famously known as 'the least spoilt church in Cornwall'. Dating to the 15th century, with the earlier 14th-century church incorporated into the structure, it offers a stunningly romantic setting, filled with historic artefacts.

Marquee Receptions

A piece of land adjacent to the property is ideal for erecting a marquee, tipi or yurt to accommodate larger wedding celebrations.

Catering

Couples celebrating their big day at Launcells Barton are required to source their own catering, so you have completely free rein to decide on whatever type of cuisine you want for your wedding day. However, the team can recommend some good local firms.

Accommodation

At the top of its very own private staircase is the luxurious Bridal Suite. A perfect location for the bridal party to prepare, the room features large window seats, a roll-top bath and other luxuries, just perfect for a bit of post-wedding indulgence the morning after!

Five further bedrooms in the main part of the house can be used by the wedding party. These comprise three double rooms plus two ensuites with pull-out beds for kids. For even more space, the reception lounge downstairs is turned into a double bedroom.

And for wedding guests who love the great outdoors, there's plenty of room at Launcells Barton to camp outside in tents or yurts!

  • Matt & Ellie

We really could not have found a more stunning venue for our Wedding! We instantly fell in love with Launcells Barton when we came to visit in January 2016 and have really enjoyed seeing it transform over the past year and a half.

Thanks again for all of your help leading up to and on our wedding day. It was a pleasure meeting and getting to know the both of you. You were absolutely amazing from the moment we first met and helped everything run so smoothly, nothing was ever too much trouble. It really was just perfect and how lucky were we with the sunshine!! We really couldn't have been happier honestly it was all perfect and so many people have said to us it's the best wedding they have been to as it was all just so relaxed & that's exactly how we wanted it.

  • Ailsa & Phil

I'm struggling with where to start, because it's so difficult to put into words just how wonderful our day was. From the moment we met Lara and looked around the venue, there was no question that we were going to get married there. It really is a hidden gem.

You'd think that only giving ourselves 4 months to plan our wedding would be stressful. But, I can honestly say that I enjoyed every second of the organisation. Communication between ourselves and Lara was excellent and any questions we had were promptly answered.

The day itself was just perfect. Being a December wedding we almost expected bad weather. Every part of our day was inside or undercover so, rain or shine, it really didn't matter. One of the best things about the venue is that it is so flexible. Whatever your vision for your wedding, I'm pretty sure it can be achieved here!
Throughout the day Lara, Matt and their team behind the scenes made sure that everything ran smoothly. Thank you for all the hard work that went into making such special memories for Phil and I. We couldn't have asked for more. I highly recommend Launcells Barton as a wedding venue: It's beautiful, flexible, and Lara and Matt are dedicated to making your day as carefree and memorable as possible!

  • Charlotte & Dan

Dan and I first visited Launcells Barton on a rainy January afternoon and were immediately taken with Lara and Matt's enthusiasm and the sheer beauty of the venue. We knew it was the perfect venue for the relaxed feel we wanted but also enough of a blank canvas that we could make it our own. All the time, money and effort planning was completely worth it on the day – despite having an uninvited guest in the form of 'Storm Brian' with his gale force winds and driving rain!

Luckily Launcells Barton proved the perfect choice and the weather was soon forgotten as the beauty of the venue is as much about its interior as its exterior – a quality we had struggled to find at other venues. Lara, Matt and Alannah coordinated and supported us through the day perfectly! One thing that was really important to me was that the evening had a good 'flow, I really wanted to avoid a venue where guests were segregated into different rooms depending on whether they were at the bar, relaxing or dancing and the main barn was perfect for this.

I honestly couldn't fault the entire weekend and would do it all again in a heartbeat – rain included! Thank you so much to Lara, Matt, Alannah and the rest of the Launcells team for helping us create the wedding of our dreams!
