History
Although Launcells Manor is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, the older part of the surviving building is believed to date back to the 14th century, and originally housed a cell of Augustine monks connected to Hartland Abbey. The bridal suite features a gorgeous barrel-vault ceiling and a rustic church door, with a concealed priest-hole dating from the period immediately following the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The newer part of the building is mid-Georgian, boasting regal exteriors and large light rooms.
The property is currently owned by Matthew and Lara. Matthew grew up at Launcells Barton; it has been in his family since 1949. When he took Lara there, she immediately fell in love with the place - despite its lack of central heating! The majestic exterior and historic interior amazed her, and once she experienced the incredible views of the sun setting over the Cornish sea she just knew that she had to live here. Since then, Matthew and Lara have worked tirelessly to make the events space the fantastic venue that it is today. They are lovingly restoring their property, to ensure that it can be enjoyed by wedding parties for many years to come.
