This truly outstanding house was constructed in the late 1400s before being rebuilt in the 16th century by William and James Stumpe. It was created as a Dorter (dormitory or residence) of the nearby medieval Abbey Church Of St Mary And St Aldhelm.

Today the modified and extended house serves as both family home and wedding venue, the gardens open to the public from March-October. 2200 different varieties of roses are presented here, as well as numerous daffodils, crocuses, tulips and irises.

Amazing wedding yesterday at Abbey House Gardens, the hostess was so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. She made sure everything was organised and truly attentive to every detail. Stunning house and breathtaking gardens. It was an unforgettable time spent here and I should like to think that one day I might also be able to marry here. Thank you so much for opening up your home and garden to complete strangers and treating us all like friends...
