History

The 12,000-acre Lulworth Estate enjoys pre-Domesday roots, encompassing a swathe of Dorset's Jurassic Coast, including beauties such as the famous Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. The castle itself, conceived as a grandiose hunting-lodge in the 1600s, has been remodelled several times over the centuries.

Today Lulworth Estate is a stalwart regular feature in the local community, hosting events like the renowned Camp Bestival.

The 1000-acre deer park surrounding the castle is designated as a wildlife conservation area with rare birds such as nightjars breeding there. A small Anglican church and a Roman Catholic chapel are located on site where you may be able to hold your marriage ceremony, subject to the usual residency restrictions.

Lulworth Castle

This 17th-century castellated hunting-lodge presents an ideal space in which to host a lavish wedding ceremony or reception. There are two main reception rooms for use within the Castle itself, and both are licensed to host civil wedding ceremonies.

Dining Room

The popular choice for formal receptions, this incredible space features an eclectic mixture of original brick and stonework in the walls, with its tall mullioned windows letting in plenty of light. Decorate this space how you wish - couples have used plants, candles and up-lighting to turn this into a cosy reception room.

Civil Ceremony Capacity - 120 Guests
Formal Reception Capacity - 120 Guests

Saloon

Slightly smaller than the Dining Room, and with its own raised stage area, this space is absolutely perfect for a civil ceremony followed by a formal wedding breakfast during the day, then for a transition into the evening reception party later on. The band or DJ can be securely situated on the stage while you and your nearest and dearest dutifully dance the rest of the night away.

Civil Ceremony Capacity - 120 Guests
Formal Reception Capacity - 80 Guests
Evening Reception Capacity - 120 Guests

Lulworth Courtyard Rooms

An integral working part of the Lulworth Estate, this Grade II-listed 18th-century courtyard used to be a stable block for the hunting-lodge at the Castle. Showcasing its 'Tudoresque' half-timbered gables and an admirable mature wisteria, this space presents a serene venue to enjoy champagne and canap├ęs, or in the building itself, a wedding ceremony and formal reception.

Courtyard Room

This bright and neutral room is ideal for ceremonies with up to 100 guests. Couples typically tie the knot here, then proceed to the combined Terrace and Harness Rooms for their reception.

Civil Ceremony Capacity - 100 Guests
Formal Reception Capacity - 70 Guests

Terrace And Harness Rooms

The somewhat smaller Terrace and Harness Rooms can easily be combined to make a lavish space for receptions. 80 guests can be seated when you choose to merge these two facilities.

Civil Ceremony Capacity - 80 Guests
Formal Reception Capacity - 80 Guests

A weatherproof marquee is frequently erected in the courtyard!
