About

Hugh has been studying the classical guitar for a lifetime - since he was seven years old in fact. Having risen through guitar exam gradings with considerable agility, Hugh successfully gave many concert performances, during which he received praise from the internationally-regarded Flamenco guitarist, Paco Peña - as well as learning from the famous John Williams and Andrés Segovia.

Repertoire And Audio

Hugh plays a large repertoire from a range of specific musical styles, principally Modern and Classical Spanish and Classical.

Expect masterful renditions of Canon In D by Johann Pachelbel, passionate Classic Spanish music like Concierto De Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo and modern tunes and film soundtracks such as 'Is There Anybody Out There?' by Pink Floyd, and Pelagia's Song from 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin' - and much, much more.

Go through to Hugh's website to read up on the specifics of his repertoire, but first have a listen to these audio excerpts below.

Mallorca - Isaac Albéniz

Have I Told You Lately - Van Morrison

Il Adagio - Concierto De Aranjuez - Joaquin Rodrigo

Love Theme From 'The Godfather' - Nina Rota

The Mandolin - Stephen Warbeck

Performance

Typically, Hugh plays during two sections of your wedding day.

Ceremony

With many years of experience performing at ceremonies, Hugh can carefully select elegant songs to be played at specific points in proceedings, such as while the guests assemble, for the bridal procession, during the signing of the register and a final fanfare.

Reception

As a solo classical guitarist, Hugh is ideally suited to play gentle background music during your drinks reception, and even during the meal to bring a little charm and atmosphere to your big day.

PA System

Due to the relatively quiet nature of the acoustic classical guitar, a little amplification is occasionally necessary for noisier social events like drinks receptions and formal meals. Hugh will arrive with his own hi-fi PA system, selected specifically to amplify his musical performance without losing any original quality of sound.

Prices

Monday-Thursday - £95 for one hour, and £145 for up to two.
Friday-Saturday - £195 for up to two hours, £245 for up to three.

These prices are inclusive of travel within a radius of 50 miles of Bristol - longer distances can be (and frequently are) negotiated!

Hi Hugh, just a short message to thank you for yesterday. Everything you played was just perfect. You helped give us the perfect wedding day to remember. Everyone enjoyed themselves and asked to pass on their thanks to you. Margaret, myself, Jodie and Chris could not have chosen anyone better than yourself for our special day.

  • Jamie and Alex - 2015

Thank you so much for playing for us on Friday. The ceremony music was outstanding and the music at the drinks reception was also fantasic, it set such a good atmosphere. We wouldn't have changed anything about our day, and we are pleased you were a part of it.

  • Perdita and James Dickaty

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for playing at our wedding at Wardour castle. You were absolutely fantastic. I realise your hands must have been freezing and i am sure it must have made your job much harder, but like a pro you didnt let it show in your playing. The guests loved it and we were really pleased with the atmosphere that your music bought to our wedding, you really did make our day so special and our guests very happy. Thank you for everything you bought to our wedding. I will be sure to recommend you to all my friends.

  • Nicholas and Deepa

Hugh added a touch of class to our ceremony, he did an amazing job entertaining our guests prior to the bride's arrival, and even agreed to learn new songs and hymns at the ceremony. Hugh was a huge hit, with all our guests still commenting on how he added that something special to our day. Lovely guy, well presented and always kept in contact, Hugh made our life easier in the lead up to the wedding. Thanks again Hugh, much appreciated.

  • Sinead and Richard

'I hope you have had a lovely few months! We wanted to send you an email to thank you so much for playing beautifully at our wedding reception in Wells in September. We had the most incredible day and you really helped build the atmosphere outside while our guests enjoyed canapes in the gardens of the Bishop's palace.'
