History

The Grade II-listed Botanical Gardens' Temple of Minerva was first commissioned and built by Alfred J. Taylor for display at the 1924 Wembley British Empire Exhibition. It was intended as an advert for the City of Bath, the healing quality of its Spa waters.

In 1926 it was brought to Bath (presumably stone by stone) and reconstructed within the Botanical Gardens, which in turn were re-landscaped to accommodate and showcase the bijou Temple.

Today, the Temple Of Minerva has been transformed into one of Britain's most eco-friendly heated monuments, with an extremely sophisticated computer-controlled heat-exchange system, calling to mind the original Roman inspiration, the underfloor hypocaust.

Ceremonies

The Temple Of Minerva is licensed to host civil ceremonies, and can seat up to 35 guests within its perfectly proportioned atrium.

If the weather is good, then you can easily accommodate more guests by arranging chairs in front of the temple facing in, with yourself and your partner facing out - a perfect outdoor wedding!

Ceremony rates (Copper Beech Package) from £650 to £680.

Receptions

Then invite your guests to wander through to your reserved part of the Botanical Gardens for the reception. You're very welcome to enjoy drinks and canapés here or even your formal wedding breakfast if you can provide a marquee or other such structure.

The capacity of the area reserved for receptions is 100 guests.

Reception rates (Silver Maple Package) from £1630 to £1910
